Selective Tone Reservation Method for PAPR Reduction of Spatially Multiplexed OFDM Systems

Authors

Abstract:

Tone Reservation (TR) is one of the well-known methods for PAPR reduction of Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) systems. In this method some sub-carriers are reserved for PAPR reduction and the symbols in these sub-carriers are selected such that the PAPR of the OFDM frame is minimized. In this paper, the iterative algorithm introduced earlier for TR method in single antenna OFDM systems is extended to multiple antenna Spatially Multiplexed OFDM (SM-OFDM) systems. In the proposed method, which is called selective TR, in each iteration the peak reduction symbols of the antenna with maximum PAPR are updated. Simulation results show that using this approach leads to the performance improvement in comparison to the case where TR method is applied independently to all of antennas.

Selective Tone Reservation method for PAPR reduction in SFBC-OFDM systems

The high Peak to Average Power Ratio (PAPR) of Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) and MIMO-OFDM systems reduces the system efficiency. In this paper, an extension of Tone Reservation (TR) method is introduced for PAPR reduction in Space Frequency Block Coded OFDM (SFBC-OFDM) systems. The proposed algorithm is based on a time domain kernel which is added to the signal of the anten...

PAPR reduction scheme with selective tone reservation for OFDM signals

In this paper, we propose a peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) reduction scheme with selective tone reservation. In this scheme, the preset peak reduction tone (PRT) set would be divided into M PRT subsets that can generate M time-domain kernels. The differences of the slopes for the phase responses of the M timedomain kernels would be considered to design the M PRT subsets in reducing the PAPR...

Implementation of Tone- Reservation Technique for PAPR Reduction in OFDM

One of the major drawbacks of OFDM is high Peak to-Average Power Ratio (PAPR) which can result in poor power efficiency and serious distortion in the transmitter amplifier. Tone Reservation (TR) is a technique designed to combat this problem by reserving a number of carriers (tones) in the frequency domain to generate a cancellation signal in the time domain to remove high peaks. However TR can...

A New Weighted Tone Reservation Method for PAPR Reduction in OFDM Systems

The tone reservation (TR) technique is an efficient method to reduce the peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) in orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems. Although the weighted tone reservation (WTR) approach has been proposed as a potentially promising way to reduce the peak power, it suffers from high peak regrowth in the non-peak region of the transmitted signal. In addition, ...
